We are pleased to present the latest addition to our Research Paper Series. Today we publish a report on “How Jihadist Groups Take Advantage of Porous Borders in West Africa“, by Marco Fais. A trained analyst and information management specialist with over 25 years of experience in major international organizations and agencies, Fais has worked for the United Nations, Interpol, Europol, and Frontex, among other recognizable entities. In this report, he points to population scarcity and border porosity as lying at the root of security concerns in the Sahel region of West Africa. Fais also notes that Sahelian security concerns are expanding, as countries south of the Sahel are ill-equipped to face the growing terrorist threat. Marco Fais’ paper can be accessed here.[pdf]
