The European Intelligence Academy has published a new essay by Dr. Nick Miller, an expert in East Asian Studies and a former East Asian Security Analyst for the United States Department of Defense. Dr. Miller’s paper for the EIA, is entitled “The Assassination of Park Chung-hee and its Initial Aftermath: Views from the Declassified Archives of the United States Government“. Based on extensive archival research, the author posits that every key player, including Korean and American intelligence agencies, was surprised by the assassination of South Korea’s leader. He also concludes that internal South Korean threats were not previously considered in analyses of the case. Dr. Miller’s paper can be accessed here.[pdf]
